Business Victoria states that non-metropolitan public holidays are declared under the Public Holidays Act 1993 and are published throughout the year as local municipalities supply them. The official 2026 list was last updated on 3 August 2026.

What happens if your area is not listed?
Melbourne Cup Day is the default Victorian public holiday unless an approved alternative local public holiday has been arranged by a non-metropolitan council. If your locality is not returned by the finder, check the current Business Victoria list and your council before making employment or trading decisions.
Why some council areas have more than one date
A declaration can apply only to part of a municipality. Hindmarsh Shire, for example, has separate 2026 dates for different groups of localities, while Greater Bendigo's declaration applies to areas west of the Campaspe River.
