About VIC Public Holidays
How VIC Public Holidays checks dates, handles regional declarations and distinguishes official dates from calculated future calendars.
What this site does
VIC Public Holidays is an independent planning resource for Victorian public holiday dates. It is not a Victorian Government website.
Our primary sources
Statewide and non-metropolitan holiday dates are checked against Business Victoria and, where relevant, the Public Holidays Act 1993. We link to the source beside important date tables so readers can verify the information directly.
Official dates versus future calculated dates
When Business Victoria has published a calendar, we label the dates as official. For years beyond the published calendar, we may calculate dates that follow established rules such as Easter, Labour Day, King's Birthday and Melbourne Cup Day. Those pages are clearly marked as future calculated dates until the official calendar is released.
Regional public holidays
Regional Victoria needs special treatment because a local declaration can replace Melbourne Cup Day for an entire municipality or only specified towns, districts or postcodes. Our finder is designed to surface those distinctions rather than treating every regional holiday as statewide.
Corrections
If you spot a date or locality that appears incorrect, please use the contact page and include the official source you are relying on. We will review it against the latest published information.
